The conference met at Mercy Center, Burlingame, California, and was hosted by John Balka of St. Mary’s Cathedral, San Francisco, and John Hirten of Old St. Mary’s, San Francisco. Forty-five cathedral musicians and liturgists representing thirty-five major cathedrals were in attendance.

Topics of discussion included: furthering English plainsong, with examples of new plainsong and adaptations of existing plainsong; videotape of Peter LaManna’s presentation on plainsong (from the Corpus Christi conference); and in-house reading session featuring responsorial psalms and music for gospel processions; a panel discussion on the creative tension between the Roman Rite and musical form; balancing a music program involving amateurs, professionals, and volunteers; and an in-depth session on "Who Ministers to the Musician."

Committees were appointed to draft statements for presentation to, and approval by, the membership: Preservation of Historic Organs; CRCCM Code of Ethics; Seminary Music. Additional committees were established: Professional Concerns; Membership; RCIA; Cathedral Musicians and Rectors; Conference Prayer; CRCCM Liaison Representatives to other organizations, including NCCB/BCL, FDLC, AGO, ICEL, NPM, International Congress. Formulation of a Conference Handbook was planned.

A Memorial Liturgy for Peter LaManna and John Grady took place in St. Mary’s Cathedral and featured compositions for the occasion by Richard Proulx, Leo Nestor, Gerald Muller, Don Fellows, and John Hirten.

The Conference was treated to a tour of Bay Area cathedrals, a demonstration by Chanticleer, and presentations by St. Mary’s Cathedral Choir directed by John Balka, the San Francisco Choral Artists, and the Cathedral Choir of St. Eugene, Santa Rosa, directed by Steve Angelucci. The conference concluded with a banquet hosted by John Balka.
